The Emergency Contraception Service is available at Boots and is free of charge for those aged 17 to 30 years or those with a Medical Card.
The new pathway is expected to benefit patients who can now complete a large portion of the service before visiting the pharmacy, minimising the time patients spend in store.
To book online, patients should visit boots.ie/health-pharmacy-advice/emergency-contraception-service and select their preferred location and time, from a choice of one of 90 Boots pharmacies. Once the pre-consultation form is submitted and booking confirmed, they can attend their preferred pharmacy store to complete the pharmacist consultation and collect the medication. Alternatively, patients can attend their local Boots pharmacy and avail of the service through a walk-in private pharmacist consultation.
Commenting on the updated service,Caoimhe McAuley, Director of Pharmacy and Superintendent Pharmacist at Boots said, “This is a further step in our continued commitment to our customers. We hope the enhanced process increases the convenience of access for women needing to avail of this service, which we can in turn provide free of charge due to the ongoing extension of eligible groups for the HSE Free Contraception Scheme.”
For those aged 17 to 30 years or who have a Medical Card, the Emergency Contraception Service is available free of charge in Boots pharmacies. For other patients, a private fee will apply. For further information on the HSE free contraception scheme visit the HSE sexual wellbeing site or ask your Boots pharmacist for details.
